Gerard Cosmetics Kimchi Doll Lipstick

Last time I wrote about Gerard Cosmetics was back in April this year and in the post I have mentioned that I could not stand the scent of their lipsticks and I wasn't a fan of the formula.

Despite all the negative thoughts I have of Gerard Cosmetics' lipsticks, I decided to try it again as I have been eyeing up on the Kimchi Doll lipstick for a long time. Kimchi Doll was created in a collaboration with Sophia Chang, also known as fashionista804 on Youtube. I have been watching her for a long time and I love her channel. ♥

Kimchi Doll was purchased from makeup.co,nz, it retail for NZD $29.00, but I bought it for only $25.00 as makeup nz was having a buy two Gerard Cosmetics products for $50.00 deal.

Gerard Cosmetics = USD $19.00
Makeup NZ = NZD $29.00

Currently USD $19.00 equals to NZD $28.35, as seen above in the price comparison between Gerard Cosmetics and Makeup NZ, it is only 65c difference. I used to love buying from America as their pricing are so much cheaper; but now the exchange rates is so crazy, I find buying within New Zealand saves time, money and it's less stressful.

I didn't know Gerard Cosmetics' lipsticks comes with cardboard box packaging and my first impression was the box looks similar to Chanel lipsticks' packaging. Black and gold goes so well together and I love that it has enough details printed on the box without looking too cluttered, also love that the box looks super classy and pretty.

Kimchi Doll comes packaged in the same ol' gold mirror reflects bullet, the material used feels cheap and the bullet leaves a lot of fingerprints.

I was disappointed that the Kimchi Doll I have doesn't have Sophia Chang's signature printed on the gold bullet as seen all over the internet, I have also seen the non signature one as well, I'm just confused and I wondered if the signature one is a limited edition or something?

As described by Gerard Cosmetics, Kimchi Doll is the perfect baby doll pink and peach nude for the modern fashionista. Gerard Cosmetics claims this lipstick is long-wearing and full coverage for a flawless lip look.

Kimchi Doll looks absolutely gorgeous when Sophia Chang wears it, the color looks like a pretty baby pink in her pictures and a peachy nude in her lipstick launch video; and again, I was disappointed at how different it looks on me. The color is very similar to Lime Crime Babette, it is a pale peachy nude.

The lipstick has a Satin finish, the texture is creamy and application was easy. I am unsure of the wearing time of Kimchi Doll as I couldn't stand the lipstick scent, it just smells so weird! It did not applies full coverage, it was streaky during application and the lipstick sinks into lines.

I feel like I have tried so hard to like Gerard Cosmetics, but it's not my cup of tea.

  2. I ordered a bunch of their products, but haven't tried them yet. This is disappointing to hear. The color is so pretty, but if the formula is no good. BLAH! I'll probably do a review next year.

  3. Awww that sucks how it turned out! I've seen her video of her release of her shade and the signature is limited if I remember correctly. I remember it being more pinky nude on her too but what I'm seeing is a straight up pale peach...that would look terrible on me too! The last thing you want from a LIGHT color is a formula that sinks into lines, oh dear! Thanks for being so honest Kay!
