Lime Crime Velvetines Riot ♡ Review + Swatches

Lime Crime Velvetines Riot

Before I start writing my review, I just want to say that I am aware of the Lime Crime controversy and I know that not everyone likes the company; but I can't deny the fact that the Lime Crime Velvetines are one of the best liquid lipsticks formulas I have tried. Therefore, I am reviewing and sharing with you swatches of Lime Crime Velvetines in Riot today, only sharing with you my opinion on the product, not the brand.

Okay, let's start! I am excited to share with you my thoughts on Riot because it is literally one of my most used and top favourites from all the lips products that I own.

Lime Crime Velvetines Riot
Lime Crime Velvetines Riot

Lime Crime Vevletines Matte Liquid Lipstick is cruelty free and vegan and it is described as a liquid formula that dries to a touch-proof velvet finish.

The Velvetines are priced at USD $20.00 each and it is available to buy from the official Lime Crime website or other stockist such as Dolls Kill. To be honest, I haven't purchased anything from the Lime Crime website after news broke that hackers has broken into their system and stolen customer's private details etc... So I have since been buying Lime Crime products from Dolls Kill and sometimes Dolls Kill have amazing sales, plus their shipping services and customer services are excellent, so highly recommended!

Anyway, currently there are over 30 shades available from the Lime Crime Velvetines range and I have tried many of them, but at the moment Riot is my favourite.

The shade Riot as described on the Lime Crime website is a red-brown, on my complexion the color is shown as a medium-brick-red, it's subtle, not too dark, nor too bright. Usually I would be too shy to wear any kind of red shades to work, as I feel that it is out of my comfort zone, but Riot and I have this weird connection, I love the color so much that it has made into my everyday wearable lips products list.

 PACKAGING

Lime Crime Velvetines comes packaged in a frosty plastic tube with a red cap that has roses printed on, the packaging doesn't look nor feel cheap, but it doesn't feel luxury either, I have no complaint; and the applicator is one of those smaller version of standard doe-foot applicator, I like that the applicator allows me to apply the liquid lipstick with a precise line and Riot's application was never messy for me.

 SCENT

One of my favourite thing about the Velvetines is the scent, I love that they smell like vanilla cakes. The smell is very similar to NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream and Kylie Liquid Lipsticks.

 TEXTURE / FORMULA

Lime Crime Velvetines has a thin and watery texture that applies and dries completely matte within seconds. The texture is very lightweight and non drying nor hydrating, the matte formula is very comfortable to wear.

Normally I don't have to touch-up the lip color throughout the day as it is very long wearing, but on days that I ate oily food, I had to re-applied afterwards; and upon second application, the Velvetines stays thin and weightless, and it doesn't turn cakey or looking pasty.

Although Lime Crime did not claim the Velvetines to be water-proof, transfer-proof or kiss-proof, it did say that these are touch-proof, which I assume it is very close to the above mentioned. I find that at first application the Velvetines truely is touch-proof, but as you wear for longer hours, the product starts to transfer on cups and food etc...

I like that Riot does not bleed nor smudge during wear and I especially love that it doesn't smear all over the chin area on days that I eat oily food.

 LONGEVITY

Lime Crime Velvetines is very pigmented and the longest time Riot lasted on me was seven hours, and the shortest time it worn on me was four hours, that was when I had a pie, a fried chicken and ice cream for lunch. The lip color didn't smear on the chin, nor smudged all over the lips area, but the middle of the lips has faded, leaving a lip liner look.

OVERALL I absolutely love Lime Crime Velvetines in Riot, I love its' formula, I love the sweet vanilla cake scent and I especially love how comfortable and long wearing it wears. I like that the colour is wearable all year 'round, usually these type of colours is more suitable for winter looks, but it also makes me feel very comfortable during summer.

My Top 5 Winter Lip Colors ♡ ft. MAC, Lime Crime & Aritaum

Top 5 Winter Lip Colors 2016

This winter has been horrible,  it's soooo cold and 98% of the time it's raining, I have enough of it! On a brighter note, I am sharing with you five of my most worn and most loved lip products this winter. Vampy lipsticks is such a winter thing, but surpsingly non of mine is a vampy shade.

Top 5 Winter Lip Colors 2016

MAC NOUVELLE VOGUE LIPSTICK was launched as part of The Matte Lip Collection in 2014 and it is a Limited Edition product. I wish that MAC would bring Nouvelle Vogue back as a permanent product because this color is so pretty, gorgeous to wear all year round.

Nouvelle Vogue (I love the name) is described as a soft blue pink with a matte finish, the formula is creamy and glides on without dragging the lips. I love that it is long wearing and it has a opaque coverage. I find that the upon application, the formula appears as more of a satin finish, but as it wears for longer, the more matte it turns into.

A lot of the times MAC's matte finish tends to be very drying, but surprisingly Nouvelle Vogue is moisturizing and comfortably to wear, it also leaves a pink stain after the lipstick wears off in approximately six hours time.

Top 5 Winter Lip Colors 2016

MAC HOOP LIPSTICK was one of the three lipsticks that was chosen from the MAC By Request program in 2014, it is another Limited Edition product that I wish MAC would bring back as a permanent item.

MAC Hoop is my all time favourite lipstick, it is described as a mid-tone rosy pink with a satin finish. The texture is creamy and the application glides on smoothly without pulling and dragging. Hoop has a full pigmentation that applies evenly and the lipstick wears for approximately five hours. During wear it was moisturizing and I love that it's one of those lipsticks that I am so confident with that I can put on in a rush without being messy.

Top 5 Winter Lip Colors 2016

MAC FAST PLAY LIPSTICK is one of those products that wasn't so impressive upon first impression, but it become a favourite on second try. I have recently reviewed MAC Fast Play and I have mentioned that I only started liking the lipstick when I find that the color goes perfectly with a winter outfit.

Fast Play is described as a neutral pink with an amplified finish, the color is more of a darker shade, a mauve pink on my complexion. The texture is very creamy and the color is very pigmented, I love that the lipstick glides on smoothly and it allows me to create a fuller lips look with the subtle shine.

Top 5 Winter Lip Colors 2016

ARITAUM VOLUME UP OIL TINT is the absolute BEST long wearing lip tint that I own in my makeup collection. At the moment I have three colors from this range, but the shade "No.3 Bounce Pink" is my most used.

The shade No.3 Bounce Pink looks like a scary bright red with a hint of pink when swatched on hand, but once spread out on the lips, it is shown as a medium rosy tint. I love that the slanted applicator allow me to apply just the right amount of product on the lips and my favourite thing about the Aritaum Voluem Up Oil Tint is that once I applied the lip tint, I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. I could have the oiliest food and the color still stays as pretty as if I have just applied. By the end of the day at approximately seven to eight hours, the color will starts to fade away and when it wears off, it fades off evenly.

Top 5 Winter Lip Colors 2016

LIME CRIME VELVETINES RIOT is described as a red brown, and it is my most worn lip product this winter. Lime Crime Velvetines has a very thin and watery texture that dries into a complete matte formula. The formula is SO comfortable to wear and the lip color wears for long hours unless if I had oily food.

I love that Lime Crime Velvetines has a sweet vanilla cupcake scent that is not overpowering and the lipstick doesn't smear on the chin or bleeds during wear.

Lime Crime Velvetines ✖ Salem ✖ Review + Swatches

I am SO happy, I have to share this good news with you guys! I have finally ordered the new Lime Crime Velvetines in Cashmere yesterday and I am so excited, I can't wait for my parcel to arrive. It's like, FINALLY! They have come up with a Velvetines that is suitable for everyday wear in an office environment.

*squeal in excitement*

Today I am writing a brief review of Lime Crime Velvetines in Salem. We are so over winter in New Zealand, but I still very enjoy the whole dark lips look. ^^ & plus, Salem is one of the most raved about Velvetines shades and it is also the only Velvetines that I have enjoyed wearing so far.

Lime Crime Velvetines is described as a lip product that goes on liquid and dries completely matte; Lime Crime claims the Velvetines are touch-proof, transfer-proof, non-drying, long-wearing and does not leave stains.

Pfft ~ Almost all Lime Crime products I have tried in the past stains like a %$@*# and so far I haven't tried a liquid lipstick that is non-drying. Lime Crime may have exaggerated a bit about the non-stains and non-drying, all other long-wearing and touch-proof claims are very accurate, and the formula is actually very impressive.

Lime Crime Velvetines - Salem

Salem is described as a Matte Chocolate Brown, to me it's more of a creamy, rich dark chocolate shade.

I knew a couple of people weren't feeling the color of Salem, because it's brown and no one likes brown lipstick shades these days; but I must be the weird one as this was the only color that appeal to me the most when I did a Lime Crime order.

Lime Crime Velvetines - Salem

Lime Crime Salem has a good color payoff and it has an amazing coverage! The product first applies very liquidy then it dries to completely matte, I struggle to apply this perfectly for the first couple of times trying, the liquid sets very fast and if applies too much it goes all sticky and uneven.

I find that once you have practice the application enough, Salem would apply very easy and smoothly; and the most impressive thing is that this is really long-wearing and it is touch-proof! I could relax and have a big munch of a massive sandwich without having the liquid lipstick transfer to my food.

Not sure if all Velvetines smells the same, but Salem has this childhood smell, a very sweet, milky candy bar scent. Every time I wear Salem, I just couldn't stop sniffing LOL and that sounds super awkward haha! Salem stains a little bit when worn too long, if I was just swatching the color on my lips for a couple of minute, then it's okay. The stain could be removed with waterproof makeup removing oil.

imageOVERALL THOUGHTSimage
When I first tried the Pink Velvetines, I dislike how watery the formula was so their first impression wasn't very good. As soon as I have tried it I was like, nahh ~ not my kind of thing! Obviously, I was too quick to judge and too quick to reject.

Later on I have decided to give the Velvetines another go, if the world is obsess with it, why can't I just try it again? Maybe this time I would fall in love with the Velvetines! Oh and I did, I fell hard! If dark chocolate lipstick shades are acceptable in a law firm environment, I would definitely wear this to work!

The thing I love the most about Lime Crime Salem is the scent! It has that yummy milky bar candies that I used to love so much as a kid and I love that it is transfer proof, there is no worries when eating and drinking while wearing Salem, hmmm this is probably the first and only lip product I have tried that doesn't makes me worry so much while wearing, it doesn't smudge, no touch-up needed during the day and it is very long-wearing.

Overall, Salem is a Kay approved product ;) I am slowly changing my opinions on the Velvetines and I look forward to trying more and reviewing all other shades. ^^

Which of the Lime Crime Velvetines shades is your favourite?

Lime Crime Babette ☆ 6th Anniversary Lipstick Review

Lime Crime Babette Lipstick

Today I am reviewing the Lime Crime Babette lipstick in the Limited Edition 6th anniversary packaging. I have previously purchased Babette from a fellow blogger from the UK and it's one of those products that I tried so hard to make it work for me, but the color just seems too pale and it doesn't suit me.

So I end up selling the old one, and one day I decided to re-purchase it again, mainly for the limited edition packaging. ^^ I know Babette doesn't suit me and I can't pull it off no matter what I do, but the packaging is too pretty not to have!

Lime Crime Babette Lipstick
Lime Crime Babette Lipstick

Lime Crime Unicorn Lipstick is described as bold, opaque and recklessly loaded with pigment; and there are nineteen colors to choose from in this range. I already own three of these lipsticks in the original packaging and I absolutely love them! My all-time favourite shades are Countessa Flourescent and Chinchilla.

PACKAGING
Lime Crime has re-packaged a few of their lipsticks to the Limited Edition 6th Anniversary packaging; as you know, I am a sucker for cute packaging beauty products, I had to have this! The lipstick is packed in the same purple tube as the original packaging, on the cap it has two unicorn heads and a few stars printed around the unicorn. On the bottom it has 'Lime Crime' logo printed on with a few more stars around it.

I reckon the packaging of the box is much more prettier, don't you think? Anyway, Lime Crime has done an amazing job! I can't decided if I like the original packaging more or the 6th anniversary one, both are gorgeous, totally girly and very creative!

Lime Crime Babette Lipstick

Babette
Lime Crime Babette is described as a pinky-nude, it looks like a beautiful pale pink-nude shade in their promo pictures; but when worn on myself, it looks off, bleh. I think this would look beautiful on people with a pale skin tone. When swatch on my hand, it is showing as a pretty coral pink shade, I don't understand the color change?!

APPLICATION
Babette is opaque, the pigmentation is just as amazing as the other Unicorn Lipsticks; but the application was not easy, I couldn't apply it evenly, like... it's quite streaky... I heard a few people were experiencing the same thing, a few said the application improves only when apply with a lip brush.

LONGEVITY
I wasn't expecting a long-wearing time for Babette and it didn't seem to want to impress me anyway ~ The lipstick lasted approximately two hours before I have to re-apply again, which I didn't even bother to re-apply. I mean, I did tried to re-apply, but it's very drying and if I wanted to re-apply I had to remove whatever there's left on my lips, do the whole exfoliate and apply lip balm process all over again. It's just a hassle, especially when I forgot to carry a lip scrub with me on the day I wear Babette, the whole thing would just stay patchy. :s

Not sure what went wrong with the making of Lime Crime Babette? First, the color made me looked pale as a sick person :/, then it is very drying! Unlike the other lipsticks from this range, the ones I have tried are all very pigmented, opaque, full coverage, long wearing and very moisturizing!

OVERALL REVIEW
