TheBalm BalmShelter Tinted Moisturizer Review ♥

I have recently mentioned TheBalm BalmShelter Tinted Moisturizer in my current beauty favourites post, but that was before I experienced wearing this tinted moisturizer in a warmer day. Don't get me wrong ~ I still absolutely adore this tinted moisturizer, it's probably one of the best tinted moisturizer I have ever tried, but I don't think it's suitable for those hot days.

Today I am going to review TheBalm BalmShelter Tinted Moisturizer in shade light/medium.

I have always thought that a tinted moisturizer is the same thing as a BB cream, but according to musingofamuse's tinted moisturizer VS BB cream post, I am totally wrong! I guess you learn something new each day. ^-^

BB cream stands for Blemish Balm Cream which is made of a thick and creamy formula. It was created to soothe the skin tissue for people who had done a laser skin surgery and it works as a moisturizer, concealer and foundation, so no other base products are needed when wearing a BB cream. Oh and it's very cheap and affordable! Tinted Moisturizer compares to BB cream is much more expensive ~ I bought mine second hand from a makeup artist for NZD $15.00, they are brand new and available to purchase at TheBalm's website for USD$25.00; :o the most I have spent on a BB cream was only USD $10.00. So yeah ~ That is very expensive... When I thought that BB cream and tinted moisturizer are the same things, I have always thought that tinted moisturizer is just a non-Asian version of BB cream lol! Anyway, a tinted moisturizer is made of thin consistency compares to the thick and creamy formulas of a BB cream, tinted moisturizer feels less heavy on the face and it normally does not wear for a long time.

TheBalm BalmShelter Tinted Moisturizer with SPF18 is available in seven shades, ranging from the lightest to the darkest; I have the shade in light/medium which is a perfect match for NC25.

TheBalm have described the BalmShelter tinted moisturizer as weightless and silky-smooth which offers sun protection for everyday drama while helping to improve the look of your skin tone and texture, leaving you with polished complexion.

Obviously when a company is selling a product, they have to say how amazing it is and what kind of wow-ing results it would create for you. I personally think that this tinted moisturizer does not improve my skin tone or texture nor does it leave me with polished complexion. I only love it so much because it's weightless and it wore for a long period of time for me in those freezing days. I enjoy using this on days that I don't feel like putting a full face on.

It is currently winter in New Zealand, we have had the coldest days in the past few weeks and I really enjoyed using TheBalm BalmShelter tinted moisturizer. It does covers up some of my imprefection with the help of Dr. Young's pore eraser balm and I am way past that teenage break-outs days, I hardly have any pimples on my face these days (lucky me~). So this tinted moisturizer does goes on smoothly and it used to wore well for me, it used to last at least five hours until it starts to turn my face into an oily ball.

Nowadays it's getting warmer, we are two weeks away until Spring (yayy). It's still raining and it's still cold, but it's just a lot warmer; especially working in an office environment. I am sad to say, my current favourite tinted moisturizer is not staying on well in these warmer days, which is forcing me to switch to a full coverage foundation and I actually don't mind as I absolutely love my MAC Pro-Longwear foundation.

TheBalm BalmShelter tinted moisturizer applies smoothly and hide my imperfection well in warmer days, but I find myself having to blot excess oil off my face then apply my favourite MAC Blotting Powder every hour of the day. I once had it on for more than five hours in a hot day (it's usually that time of the day when I touch up my make-up), I was shocked to find the tinted moisturizer melting off my face :( and that was super embarrassing as I saw a lot of people that day. Grrr >.<

The consistency of TheBalm BalmShelter Tinted Moisturizer is creamy and thick, but it's light weight once applied on the face. This can be applied as a sheer coverage or it can be build up to a more medium coverage. I like to wear mine with only one normal squeeze from the bottle and it gives me a sheer coverage. I also like it more when applying with a beauty blender rather than a flat top foundation brush.

  1. I haven't tried this and always wondered if it was worth the $$. Thanks for the honest review - I won't be getting this any time soon.

It probably sounds lame, but I would have thought that the Balm could have done something much more exciting to the packaging given the rad packaging of their other products :/

    1. Awhh no! Not lame at all ^^ ~ I have thought of that too and being a packagings freak, I would have expected the packaging to be more than just writings on it lol. It's okay I guess ~ Thanks for reading my blog xx

  2. I've tried this in the past, both my mom and I and it's not worth it for me. Too sheer and not long lasting at all especially in the hot and always humid weather here! I tried using it for a few weeks but then gave up and threw it away. I need at least light-medium coverage and it's always 90% humidity here so it doesn't last at all! I love their other products though!

    1. Oh I get what you mean Sharlynn, at first I was like it's really nice cause it's pretty chill and it's winter here at the moment, but then it's getting warm and the tinted moisturizer just melt off my face.
