MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection ♡ Review + Swatches

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection was launched in May 2017 and it features a selection of products ranging from eyeshadow palettes to lipsticks and lipgloss to makeup accessories. I love the packaging of this collection, it reminds me of summer, it's sweet and fruity.

I bought four items from the MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection and initially my plan was to collect all the bronzing powders, blushes and lipsticks, but I changed my mind as soon as I check out the rest of the products in store, it just seems to me that this collection has no pigmentation at all.

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection: Coconut Prep + Prime Fix+

MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ is described as a lightweight water mist that gently soothes and refreshes skin and finishes makeup. I have a couple of these, but I just don't understand the hype on this product?! It's not a setting spray?! and to be honest I have no idea what it does? I sometimes use it as a midday touch-up spray, it is refreshing on a very hot day, but other than that, it doesn't really do much. The only thing that I love about the Fix+ is the scented ones, especially the coconut scent and that is why I got very excited when I got my hands on the MAC x Fruity Juicy Coconut Fix+. I love the packaging of this and I love the coconut scent.

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection: Fruity A La La Eyeshadow Palette

MAC has released three eyeshadow palettes for the Fruity Juicy Collection and each palette contains six eyeshadows. The one I bought is called Fruity A La La, it contains pink, orange, rosy and three neutral shades and I adore the name of this palette.

MAC Fruity A La La Eyeshadow Palette contains the below shades:
 Glamour Light (warm beige)
Soleil So Lovely (dirty grey nude)
 Arriba (frosty rose)
Carnal Charm (bright burnt orange red)
 Fuchsia Fury (bright blue pink)
Cocktail Black (deep brown grey with pearl).

I LOVE the packaging and the shades from this palette is bright and vibrant, it also gives you a choice to tone down your eyes makeup with the neutral shades.

I AM DISAPPOINTED with the pigmentation and as you can see in my arm swatches below, the colours barely shows up on skin. I have tried to create an eye look with this palette and I find that it works okay when applying using my fingers, but I had to go back and forth when applying with a brush because it's just not picking up colours. Also the eyeshadows are a bit powdery and when applying with a brush, it doesn't blend too well. With the problems of the pigmentation, fellow bloggers has suggested to spray the makeup brushes with Fix+ for the pigmentation to show, but I just think that MAC shouldn't be this quality, ya'know?!

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection: Oh My, Passion! Pearlmatte Face Powder

MAC Oh My, Passion! Pearlmatte Face Powder is described as an unique face powder featuring a flirty flower pattern with pearlized and satin shades that can be used as a blush and a highlighter. This was one of the products from the Fruity Juicy Collection that I was really looking forward to getting my hands on, purely because of its' packaging.

Whether the quality is good or not, I was ready for it! I need this in my collection because of its' tropical fruity and floral packaging, it looks beautiful inside out.

Looking at the colours in this face powder, I thought it can be used as a bronzer (with the brown shade), highlighter (with the yellow shade) and blush (with the coral and lavender pink shades). I was only right about one thing and it's the blush. The brown shade is too shimmery and too sheer to use as a bronzer and the yellow shade is very pigmented, but the powder is chalky and it looks more like a brightening setting powder than a highlighter on me.

I was impressed with the blush shades though as both colours are pigmented and they are easily to blend. Below I share with you a before and after photo of wearing the blush shades from this face powder. (in the photo I am wearing a Canmake bronzer and MAC Blushing beam as the highlighter).

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection: Shy Girl Lipstick

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection features four lipsticks in raspberry, purple, peach and pinky nude shades, I only bought one and it's called Shy Girl.

MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection: Shy Girl Lipstick

MAC Shy Girl Lipstick is described as a creamy neutral coral beige with an Amplifed finish. It has great pigmentation that applies smoothly and evenly, but it seems to emphasise the imperfection on the lips, it wore for two to three hours on me and it wasn't drying during wear.

Overall, I love the packaging of the MAC x Fruity Juicy Collection, I love the tropical fruits and the summer vibe (I'm so sick of this cold weather, I want summer now!) and my favourite products from this collection is the coconut Fix+, although as mentioned above, until now I am still confused with the use of Fix+, I love the coconut scent and I adore the design on the bottle.

My least favourite item is the eyeshadow palette, the pigmentation was a huge disappointment.

have you tried anything from this collection?
what are your thoughts?

  1. Fix + can be used to freshen the face, make eyeshadow colors POP, and can be used in the hair (flyaways). There are a number of uses. Just type it in YouTube and there are a number of videos that talk about it's uses. I felt the same way! LOL What do I use it for? The packaging is divine but that's why I didn't buy it, because all the swatches I saw were so disappointing.

  2. Oooo I love the packaging of this collection! I'm a huge fan of fruit prints and fruit everything but the only product that I fancy is the lipstick but making imperfections obvious a huge no-no on the lips!
